How long does a DOT physical exam take?
This depends on your overall health. The more health issues you have, the longer it takes to review them. If you are healthy and not taking prescription medications, your appointment should only take about 15-20 minutes!

Will my insurance cover the cost of my DOT physical examination?
In most cases, no. The DOT physical exam is to determine “fitness for duty”, and is not a normal physical examination to evaluate overall health. Most health insurance companies won’t cover this expense. We can provide you with a receipt if you want to file with your insurance and try to get reimbursed.
What do I need to bring for a DOT physical?
2. Not something you bring, but be sure to have your online health questionnaire filled out before you arrive.
3. If you wear glasses, please have them with you.
4. If you’re on any medications, bring a list of all your medications.
5. A mostly full bladder; for your urine sample. 🙂
Why do I have to provide a urine sample for a DOT physical exam?
The urine sample is used to evaluate certain health conditions, specifically, we’re checking the following things:
– Protein – indicator of kidney health
– Glucose – indicator or possible diabetes
– Specific Gravity – indicator of hydration levels
– Blood – indicator of kidney health
We aren’t looking for drugs or alcohol, that is done via a drug screening, which is a separate procedure.

Yes, in order to operate a CMV (Commercial Motor Vehicle) and have a CDL (Commercial Drivers License), you need to have a Medical Certificate, which is what you’ll receive after passing your DOT physical examination.

The DOT physical is an evaluation to determine if a driver is capable of safely performing the duties associated with driving. A drug screen is checking for use of prohibited substances.
